History
Over the course of more than forty years, Scarborough Alliance has provided union members in 48 states – from Maine to Hawaii – with retirement plans and planning services designed especially for them. Our dedication to educating union members about income and investment planning in retirement is what has distinguished us from other financial services organizations and providers.
Scarborough has built the company, carefully crafted its products and tailored its services to suit the unique needs of Local Unions and their members. Milestones in the history of Scarborough Alliance include:
1970 – Established as an independent benefit plan administrator
1975 – Established the first IBEW Local sponsored voluntary savings plan, creating the IBEW Local Unions Savings and Retirement Plan
1979 – Established the first IBEW Local sponsored company matching plan with AT&T, creating the IBEW Local Unions Savings and Security Plan
1984 – Expanded the first IBEW Local sponsored company matching plan to the Bell regional companies – the IBEW Local Unions Savings and Security Plan
1990 – Began using the IBEW Local Unions Savings and Security Plan as a rollover vehicle with the introduction of Lump Sum Pensions at various Bell Companies
2001 – Expanded our product line to offer solutions for monies held outside of retirement accounts and extended our advisory services to family members of union workers
2005 – Introduced Regional Managers to deliver more retirement planning workshops and one-on-one consultations around the country
2010 – Became a division of PlanMember Financial Corporation
2011 – Launched Local Unions Retirement Income Program, giving members access to managed mutual fund accounts and guaranteed lifetime income options
2017 – Partnered with IBEW-NECA to provide individual investment advisory and retirement planning services to plan participants
